David began his special effects career at an early age, creating scaled miniatures to use in the films he and his friends made in his backyard. From that point on, David was hooked on film! He continued making films through high school and then attended film and photography school in the early 80's, putting special emphasis on mechanical and visual special effects.
To pursue his passion David moved to Hollywood, for his first job with Special Effects Unlimited. David began his work in effects on TV commercials and low budget features. Over the years David moved into feature films and series television. In 1989 David formed Giant Ant Special Effects, a pyrotechnic and mechanical effects company based in Las Vegas Nevada to accommodate films, TV and rock videos shot on location there. David's company has created pyrotechnic and mechanical effects for feature films, television, cable movies, live stage, rock videos, commercials, fireworks displays and corporate events, from New York to L.A. and all points in between.
David has trained under many of the old timers of the "golden age" of special effects in Hollywood. Many of the men that he apprenticed under were legends, with powder cards that had only two numbers! David is a card carrying special effects technician with IATSE local 44. He has a powder #1 card in California and Nevada and is also licensed with the BATF. While David is known for his large scale pyrotechnics he is well versed in all facets of effects, from stunt work involving cars, helicopters and trains to small scale pyro gags involving talent on stage.
